3D Laser Scanning Services (LiDAR)
Building excellence with 3D laser scanning technologies and expertise in Toronto.
Ranging from building new architectural models, construction inspection, project planning, site changes, and heritage preservation, 3D laser scanning (LiDAR) solutions provide architects, engineers, and general contractors with reliable and comprehensive 3D data, "as built" drawings, and 3D and BIM models. Our well-travelled 3D experts, with 20+ years of 3D experience and metrology grade 3D scanners, take on demanding AEC challenges.
How does a 3D Laser Scanner Work?
3D laser scanning is an optical non-contact measurement method for 3D measurements of physical objects, parts, and assemblies. 3D laser scanning typically involves the projection of a laser dot, line, or pattern onto a surface and uses a camera to capture the reflection of the laser light. Triangulation calculations are then performed, knowing the spatial relationships between camera and laser projection to derive the three-dimensional information about the physical objects.
LiDAR
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is the most prominent form of 3D laser scanning for larger scale applications.

What Can You Use 3D Laser Scanning and Data for?
Scan to BIM Models
3D Scan data can be exported into architectural software, including Revit, and leveraged to create BIM models, which provide the excel level of architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) information.
2D/3D Drawing, Floor Plans & Layout
With the ‘point cloud’ captured from the architectural structure, we can create 2D drawings and documentation for a floor plan or elevation, and 3D building models and structural engineering information.
Construction Inspection
Deviation studies can be undertaken with large scale 3D measurements. Laser 3D scanning measures and checks the structure and floor level to detect building problems.
Heritage Building Preservation
Architects can use the high-precision 3D data to document, restore, and renovate both the exterior and interior and incorporate heritage buildings into dynamic new spaces.
Digital Twins
Digital twins, such as drawings, profiles, 3D models, point clouds, and BIM models, are dynamic replicas of physical buildings, plants, production lines, and all types of facilities. Digital twins can be used for design changes, plant asset updates, and clearance analysis, simulated in computer software first before getting approval.
Reverse Engineering of Large Legacy Components
Large pieces of components, assemblies and equipment in the AEC industry, can be digitized through 3D laser scanning for documentation, inspection, maintenance, repair and rebuild.
